Ken McKechnie: From the Wilderness to the West Country – A Geologist’s Journey from Fact to Fiction

In this illustrated talk, geologist turned novelist Ken McKechnie will be discussing the lives of the West Country miners and their families, illuminated by his own experiences.

Ken’s latest novel ‘The Boy in the Dark’ is set in mid-19th Century Cornwall; it draws on two years of research and thirty years of experience wandering some of the most remote regions of the world searching for and mining minerals, metals, gold and diamonds. ‘The Boy in the Dark’ is inspired by his experiences and the extraordinary men and women he worked with around the world.
