Privacy Policy

Who we are

Penzance Literary Festival (“LitFest”), registered charity number 1168422, is committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of visitors to our website and events.

We will never sell, rent or otherwise exchange your data with any other organisations for any purpose.

Types of data we may collect

Ticketing data

When you purchase a ticket (or tickets) for LitFest events through the Acorn Theatre Box Office or online your name, address data, email and contact number will be stored in the secure booking office software provided as a service by CRBO (Cornish Riviera Box Office). After the events, the only information we maintain for each of our visitors is first name, last name and email address, along with the source of your data. In the example below, the four hidden names all bought tickets for events at the 2017 Penzance Literary Festival through Cornish Riviera Box Office. Where relevant, the date of booking is also included.

The Cornish Rivera Box Office is a service provided through St Austell Tourist Information Centre and provides ticket sales for events across Cornwall. They provide your details to the LitFest for the sole purpose of sending emails to visitors about future events.

You may, of course, buy a ticket (or tickets) in person at any LitFest event (subject to availability) without providing personal data.

Mailing list subscriptions

If you wish to subscribe to our mailing list through our website, we collect limited information (first name, last name, email) and only use this to contact you about forthcoming events; to check our information is correct; and to invite you to participate in future LitFest events or satisfaction surveys.

We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our communications. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our newsletters. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice, especially with reference to the section Your Distribution Lists which states how they manage the LitFest’s data. You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any LitFest email or by emailing our data protection officer, Robin Knight at

Website cookies

This site uses cookies – small text files that are placed on your machine to help the site provide a better user experience. Google Analytics

When someone visits we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Access to your personal information

You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. Email your request to our data protection officer Robin Knight at
