Joanna Verran is Emeritus Professor of Microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan University. In addition to her laboratory-based research, she has always been keen to use arts and the humanities to help audiences engage with science. She is a National Teaching Fellow and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In 2019, she was awarded the American Association for the Advancement of Science prize for Public Engagement with Science.
